Diurnal docs
How to install Diurnal on your Mac, connect it to Claude and other AI apps, and what your assistant can do with it.
Diurnal is a native Mac notepad where everything you write becomes a task. You write on the pad, the first line of a paragraph is the task, and a day, a time or a #tag you type is read as you write. Nothing needs a date, and a task you stop touching tidies itself away.
Diurnal also connects to AI apps such as Claude through the Model Context Protocol (MCP). Once connected, your assistant can list, add, update, complete and delete your tasks, and read your Google Calendar, from any chat.

How it fits together
- The Mac app is where you write and plan. It needs an account: sign in with Google or with email.
- Your tasks sync to Diurnal's server, so they are on every Mac you sign in to, and so a connected AI app can reach them.
- An AI app connects to Diurnal at
https://api.diurnal.in/mcp. You sign in once in your browser and click Allow. Changes it makes show up in the Mac app within moments.
To read what Diurnal is for before installing, see the overview or the MCP page.
