Troubleshooting
Answers to common Diurnal questions, from tasks that moved or vanished to reminders, voice, sync and connecting an AI app.
Using the app
Why did my task move?
- Auto-clean moved it: it went unanswered after Still on this?, so it moved to next week. Its History says "Diurnal · no reply". See Auto-clean.
- You typed a later date on it, so it moved to Coming up.
My task disappeared from the pad
It may be dated later (look in Coming up), completed (look in Done), hidden by a Filter, or deleted because its title was cleared. Press ⌘F and search for it.
A word vanished from my title
Diurnal read it as a date or time: "tom" is tomorrow, "sat" is Saturday. Click the dimmed word, or press ⌫ after it, to keep it as text. See What you can type.
"at 5" gave me 5 in the morning
A bare number is a 24-hour time. Type "5pm".
My #tag stayed in the title
Only tags you already have are read. Type # and choose Create "#name" first.
My reminder didn't ring
See Reminders.
Voice capture filed nothing
That's by design: press ⏎ to file what you said. See Voice capture.
My theme didn't carry over to my other Mac
Appearance, shortcuts and Focus settings belong to each Mac. See Settings.
I forgot my password

Connecting an AI app
The sign-in page says the link can't be used, or has expired
A sign-in started from your AI app expires after ten minutes. Start the connection again from your AI app, and finish signing in within that time.
I signed in, but my tasks aren't there
- Make sure you signed in with the same account you use on your Mac. On your Mac, check Settings › Account.
- Make sure the Mac app has synced: a task you just typed while offline reaches your assistant once your Mac is back online.
Dates are a day off
Every date is read in the time zone your assistant sends. Tell your assistant your time zone, for example "I'm in Asia/Kolkata", and ask again.
"Too many Diurnal requests are running at once"
Your assistant sent several requests in parallel. Ask it to wait a moment and retry.
"Too many calendar reads this minute"
Calendar reads have their own per-minute limit. Wait a minute, then ask again.
The assistant hits a request limit
Each account has a per-minute and a per-day limit on connector requests, set well above normal use. If your assistant reaches one, wait a minute and retry; a daily limit resets within a day.
"No task with id …"
The task was deleted or changed on another device. Ask your assistant to list your tasks again and retry.
"No project called …" or "… is finished"
The connector never creates projects, and can't add tasks to a finished one. Create or reopen the project in the Mac app.
The calendar returns no events
Connect Google Calendar in the Mac app, and check the account is switched on in Settings › Calendars. See Google Calendar.
The app stopped working after a while
If you haven't used the app for 30 days, or you disconnected it in Settings › Account › Connected Apps, connect it again from the app.
