Using Diurnal

Reminders

How Diurnal reminders work, how to set and clear one, make it ring longer, and fix a reminder that didn't ring.

In Diurnal, a task's time is its reminder. Give a task a time and you'll get a notification then.

Set a reminder

  • Type a time on the task, like "call the bank 4pm" or "stretch in 20m". See What you can type.
  • Or click the task's time to pick or change one. Clear the reminder time removes it.

The notification shows the task's title and its time. Click it to open Diurnal on that task. Reminders have no snooze; to push one later, change the task's time.

Make it ring longer

By default a reminder plays your notification sound once. To keep it ringing for up to a minute with an alarm sound, set Play for in Notifications settings.

Meeting reminders

If you connected Google Calendar, Diurnal also reminds you before each meeting, 10 minutes ahead by default, with a View button. Change the timing in Remind me before events.

When a reminder didn't ring

  • Notifications are off for Diurnal. A Reminders off note appears in Diurnal; click Turn on and allow notifications in System Settings.
  • Diurnal wasn't running. Keep it in the menu bar; a reminder only rings longer than once while Diurnal is running. Hiding Diurnal is fine, quitting is not.
  • Your Mac was asleep at that moment. A sound more than a few seconds late is not played.
