Using Diurnal

Auto-clean

Why Diurnal asks "Still working on this?", why untouched tasks move to next week, and how to change or turn off auto-clean.

The pad tidies itself. A task you haven't touched for a while asks whether you're still on it, and one you don't answer moves to next week instead of piling up as overdue.

What happens

  1. After 1 day untouched, a task on the pad shows Still on this? with three answers: Keep, Done and Next week.
  2. If you don't answer for 2 more days, Diurnal moves it to next week on its own.
  3. On the day it was moved to, the task comes back to the pad, marked Back from last week.

Only tasks on the pad take part. Editing a task restarts its count.

Where moved tasks go

Moved tasks land on next week's Monday to Thursday, spread across the least busy days. In Coming up they're marked Moved; hover and click Bring back to return one to the pad now.

When Diurnal moves something, a note on the pad says what moved, and the task's History shows "Diurnal · no reply to Still working on this?".

Change or turn it off

In Settings › General › Scratchpad:

  • Ask "Still working on this?" after: Never, or 1 to 14 days.
  • Move unanswered tasks to next week after: Never, or 1 to 7 days.

Choose Never for asking to turn auto-clean off. Changing either starts the count again from today, so nothing moves straight away. These settings follow you to your other Macs.
