Settings

Appearance

Choose Diurnal's theme, pick a Glass background, and set how much the desktop behind it is blurred and dimmed.

Theme

Appearance has four choices:

  • Glass (the default): Diurnal's panes show the desktop through them, or a background picture of their own. Glass is always dark.
  • System: follows your Mac's light and dark schedule.
  • Light or Dark: always that.

If Reduce Transparency is on in macOS System Settings, Glass panes are drawn solid. Turn it off to see through them.

Glass backgrounds

With Glass, Background picks what sits behind the panes: Desktop (your own wallpaper, the default), or one of Dune, Aurora, Nightfall, Swell, Peaks, Pines, Flow and Dusk. A picture helps when your wallpaper is too bright or busy to read over.

Backdrop

  • Blur softens what is behind Diurnal.
  • Dim the desktop darkens it.

Raise either when text is hard to read. With a background picture, each picture remembers its own blur and dim. Changes apply straight away.

Reset to Defaults puts the theme, background, blur and dim back. It leaves your typeface and Dock setting alone.

Appearance belongs to this Mac, so another Mac can look different.
