Diurnal on Android

Diurnal on Android

Get Diurnal on your Android phone, sign in, find Write, Plan and Focus on your phone, and see what works differently on Android and on tablets.

Diurnal on Android is the same notepad as on the Mac: everything you write becomes a task, and your tasks sync between your phone and your Mac.

Install it

Diurnal for Android is coming to Google Play. Once it is listed:

  1. Install Diurnal from Google Play on your phone.
  2. Open Diurnal.

Diurnal needs Android 12 or later. Google Play keeps it up to date.

Diurnal needs an account. When it opens:

  • Continue with Google signs in with a Google account already on your phone, with no browser.
  • Continue with email opens a form with Sign in and Create account. A new account gets a six-digit code by email to finish.

Use the same account as on your Mac and your tasks are already there. See Account and sync.

Write, Plan and Focus

Switch lenses with the bar at the bottom of the screen. Each lens has its sections across the top.

Your initial opens Settings. On Write, Calendar opens your day's calendar; on Plan, tapping the day at the top of Today does the same.

What's different on a phone

  • No voice capture. Type, or use the ways in from anywhere instead of a shortcut.
  • No menu bar and no keyboard shortcuts. Tap, swipe and drag instead. See Tap, swipe and drag.
  • Themes: Light, Dark or System, in Settings › Appearance. There is no Glass background.
  • No floating timer. A running Focus session lives in a notification. See Reminders and notifications.

On a tablet or a foldable

  • On a wide screen, the lens bar moves to the side. A phone turned sideways, or a foldable half-folded like a laptop, keeps the bar at the bottom.
  • With the bar at the side, Plan's capture bar sits at the top of the list.
  • On the widest screens, Today shows today's calendar beside your tasks. Tap the day's name above it to open the full calendar.
  • The calendar shows Day and 3 days with the phone upright, and Day and Week when it's sideways or on a tablet.
  • Settings, sheets and lists keep a comfortable reading width in the middle of the screen.
