Using Diurnal

Focus

Use Diurnal's Pomodoro timer with rounds and breaks, background soundscapes and the floating timer, or just the clock.

Press ⌘3 for the Focus lens. It has two sections: Pomodoro and Clock.

Pomodoro

  1. Click Start 25 min, or press ⏎.
  2. Work until the round ends. A chime sounds and the break begins.

A set is four 25-minute rounds with 5-minute breaks between them and a 15-minute break after the last. When a round runs out you can add +10 min or +15 min, and +5 min to a short break.

While it runs, Pause, Resume, Stop (ends the session and logs it) and Mark done are on screen, and in the menu bar menu. Sessions under a minute aren't logged. To change a round's length, pause or stop first.

Lengths, rounds, chimes and whether breaks start on their own are all in Focus settings.

Background sounds

Choose a soundscape for focus and another for breaks: Rainy café, Deep forest, By the fire, Seaside, Storm or Brown noise. Or open the mixer, blend rain, thunder, forest, fire, ocean, café, wind and noise yourself, and save your mix.

Sounds download the first time you use them, so you need to be online once. After that they play offline.

The floating timer

During a session, a small timer floats on screen so you can see it while Diurnal is hidden. Drag it anywhere; it remembers. Turn it off or pick a corner in Focus settings.

Clock

A calm view of the time, the shape of your day, and one sentence about what's left of it.
